The Walk Slowly Initiative

Yesterday I wrote this great article about a cat lady I met. And I didn't save it and now it's lost. Normally, I'd try to remember it word-for-word and recreate the story. And the world would know about the cat lady (and by world I mean the two people who visit this site at least once per quarter).

Instead, today marks a new day for me. I'm not going to do it. I'm going to let it go. And from now on, I'm not going to walk fast, either. I woke up this morning, and I said "Hey, I'm done walking briskly." And that was it.

I went to four classes today. I walked non-fast to all of them. I was late to three of them, and I liked it.

In related news, Aaron got his internship with that investment bank he's fallen in love with (Robert W Baird) in Milwaukee. Milwaukee is in Wisconsin.

Some people might say Aaron getting the internship had nothing to do with my decision to never walk fast again. I think that's like saying people don't call a cat lady "The Cat Lady" just because she's got a bunch of cats all up in her house.

So, I'm introducing the "Walk Slowly Initiative," or the WSI. And I invite good people everywhere to hold up a step-and take time to appreciate the path that will eventually lead you to wherever it is you'll end up. You migt be late, but I promise you'll be rested.

*Thanks to Jayne with a Y for letting me know a couple months ago that I walk[ed] too fast, and congrats to the Aace on the internship.

Meme?

What's a "meme?" In French, it means "the same." In English...I don't know, I just do what I'm told.

So, Paul's image is way better than mine...and after doing some research, it doesn't look like an image is even required, but I thought I'd give it a shot anyway. Here are my responses:

Four jobs I've had
1. Service Tech at Burt Brother's Tire
2. Spanky's (I was king of the 6 inch sub)
3. On-site Events Coordinator at KSL Newsradio
4. Intern at Richter7
-My favorite? What could be better than making sandwiches at Colonial Square with Jose and Phil? I also work for PowerPlay Productions, but it doesn't really count as work.

Four movies I could watch over and over
1. Bottlerocket
2. Waiting for Guffman
3. Spellbound
4. Crash or Garden State
-Close runner-ups would be Raising Arizona, Harold and Maude, and Titanic. Just kidding about that last one.

Four places I've lived
1. Pleasant Gove, UT
2. Bountiful, UT
3. Sion, Switzerland
4. Annecy, France
-I will live in Switzerland again.

Four tv shows I love
1. The Office
2. 24
3. CNN
4. There aren't four...
-The Office is the best show ever. Ever.

Four places I've vacationed
1. Zermatt
2. Florence, Italy
3. Ketchikan, Alaska
4. Belize
-And soon to be Kauai.

Four of my favorite dishes
1. Steak and Mashed Potatoes
2. Sushi- Vegas Rolls
3. Cajun Chicken Alfredo from the Porcupine Grille
4. Ramen
-Ramen is only on the list because without it, I'd have died four years ago.

Four sites I visit daily
1. passwird
2. noahcrockett.com
3. newsvine
4. paulmayne.org

Four places I'd rather be right now
1. Snowbird
2. Switzerland
3. Moab
4. Grant's Island

Four people I'm tagging

Becca Foster
Dave Rathbunstein
Larry Sagers

Elements 2006

This 9x12 double-sided product slick and business cards will be making their way down to "Dixie" for the 2006 Water Conference being held in St. George, Utah the week of February 27th- March 3rd.

If you can explain to me why we Utahans call Southern Utah "Dixie," I'll send you a roll of duct tape. And if you want to correct me regarding the spelling of "Utahans," take a look at the wiki suggestion for Utah as an adjective and demonym first.

Um...anyway...NovotX wanted this piece to keep the look of their product website as much as possible. At first it did a good job, but eventually it pulled quite a ways away from the web design. Cool product though, if you're in to utilities management or just entrepreneurship in general.

iStockphoto Sells Out

Good for the iStock guys, sad for the iStock users.

"On February 9, in the early hours of the morning, iStockphoto agreed to join the Getty Images family."

They say they won't change, but your best friend said the same thing when he started dating that chick. And look at the mess that made. It always changes.

And when an independent photo house that sells images for $1-$10 joins up with one of the world's largest who sells images for $80-$400 and up, something's gotta change. Too bad.

Read the well-written explanation here.

Death Cab "Directions" Update: Summer Skin

Here we go- this is the "Directions" video I've been waiting for. Are you getting sick of these reviews yet? I'll quit talking, you just watch the movie. Nicely done.

Death Cab "Directions" Update: Soul Meets Body

Instead, I'd call it "Director Meets Film. For the First Time."

In the second release of "Directions," director Cat Solen seems to have thrown together a bunch of home video footage centered around a Thanksgiving-type meal. She's done two videos for Bright Eyes, so I'd expected some interesting work here. Instead, it was just...amature looking. Then again, I'm no expert in cinematographic experimentation. Seems like an easy edit job though. Take an object like a wine glass, and use that as "continuity" from one cut to the next. Then pick some weeds, and use them as prescribed in the wine glass cut.

Anyway, no big deal really, but "Soul Meets Body" has a lot more potential. The one redeeming element was the guy standing by one of those talking, moving deer heads while his son plays an accodian. That's cool, but the rest was a little drab.

Keep an eye out for the video to "Summer Skin" coming Feb. 6-12. The only "direction" to go from here is up.
